What's the difference between Weight and Mass?
Mass is a measurement of how much matter is in an object; weight is a measurement of how hard gravity is pulling on that object. Your mass is the same wherever you are - whether it's on earth, the moon or somewhere in space because the amount we're made of doesn't change. As far as weight, it depends on how much gravity is acting on you at the moment; you'd weigh less on the moon than on earth, and in space you'd weigh almost nothing at all. To measure mass, we'll always need a comparative object and can use a balance scale, for weight, a typical scale or triple balance beam can be used.
What is the use of Slotted Masses?
Slotted masses are used in student lab classes, to teach physics and other sciences. The slots allow them to be placed on weight hangers, which are lightweight platforms attached to a thin rod with a hook at the top. Various masses are added to the hanger to create the desired amount of total mass (standard masses are 100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2, and 1 gram), then the combination is hung by the hooked end from a string or other support point.
The slotted mass/weight hanger combination allows a student to quickly create any desired amount of mass, to use in experiments involving force, acceleration, and mass. There are also many other experiments in other fields where a variable hanging mass comes in handy.

Made of brass with standard slots as supplied on racks. The slot is 3.5 mm wide and the diameter of the center hole is 6.5 mm.
